Salaries of the President, Ministers and Members Iraqi significantly reduced
Africa, 08/21/2012 01:56 pm

Iraqi Parliament approved on Tuesday the significant reductions in wages received by the President, Cabinet members and Iraqi lawmakers after the social movement that took place in the country earlier this year announced a deputy.

"Parliament voted today by a simple majority, to reduce the salaries of three presidents (president, head of the Government and Parliament Speaker-No), the members (the number 325), the Ministers (32) and senior officials", the Shlah said Ali, a member of the Dawa party of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. "The monthly salary of an MP was reduced to ten million dinars (6,000 euros), while that of a minister came to eight million dinars (4,750 euros)," he added. According to parliamentary sources, "230 deputies attended the meeting, during which it was decided to reduce salaries of the three presidents and ministers and deputies 30 percent to 23 percent". Salaries of senior and Vice fall by 23-30 percent, said the source. The decision to drastically reduce the salaries of senior officials was taken early, while the demonstrations multiplied in the country to denounce the poor quality of public services and shortages of electricity. Prime Minister Maliki has pledged to February 5 to halve salary.
